Update – this watch has now been spotted on the wrist of Swedish golfer Henrik Stenson, as he lifted the Claret Jug on July 17th, winning The Open at Royal Troon in Scotland. He beat off strong competition from Phil Mickleson to win the trophy, his first major, which he sealed with an overall score of 20 under par.
On June 5th Audemars Piguet unveiled a new video it made with its team of star golf pros, including US Masters champ Danny Willett, Ryder Cup skipper Darren Clarke, Ian Poulter et al. The movie has them all mucking around on a golf course in the dark (luminous golf balls and all) – funky fun if you’re a golf fan, no doubt, though nothing too exciting on the horological front. Or so it seemed.
However, watch the opening of the film, and you get a glimpse of something that doesn’t look like anything currently in the Audemars Piguet catalogue. On Darren Clarke’s wrist, what looks like a white-cased Royal Oak Offshore chronograph, on a bright blue strap.
Then we spotted this: at the Pro Am tournament at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth a couple of weeks ago, which brings together golf pros and various TV celebs, it turns out both Clarke and Lee Westwood were wearing the mysterious watch.

Currently, there’s just one watch in the Audemars Piguet catalogue with a white case: the “Stormtrooper” Concept GMT Tourbillon, cased in white ceramic. There were recently all-white ceramic Offshore Diver and an Offshore Chronograph references, but they’re no longer listed in the collection.
Audemars Piguet has notably brought to a close its old programme of limited editions associated with various sports stars. Could it have re-started it? We’re not sure – we’ve asked AP, but it’s staying tight-lipped. However, according to a tweet from Lee Westwood, the watch is “specially made“…
So, at least two of Audemars Piguet’s golfers are currently wearing what appears to be a brand new, “specially made” style of Offshore Chronograph – and what looks like a very natty one at that. Given the popularity of the previous white ceramic models, we’d bet that this could be very popular indeed if it comes to market. As yet though, AP isn’t saying anything…
